What you will find on this site

This web site contains a slightly random selection of some pictures I've taken over the years and some little Macintosh utilities and scripts that I've written (although mostly for the old Mac OS 9 version, i.e. the "Classic" environment). Many of the AppleScripts will still run under OS X with just a few adjustments (esp. the ones for BBEdit), but I haven't upgraded those that I simply no longer use; some will have to be re-written (if/when I find the time) because they use some Scripting Additions that only work under Mac OS 9 and earlier, but a conversion is certainly possible (especially since under OS X, it's possible to call UNIX shell commands through AppleScript; the possibilities are endless).

Unfortunately, some of the scripts are now obsolete because the application they were written for was never released as an OS X version; most notably among these is Adobe FrameMaker. I still use my copy within the Classic environment or within an emulator (SheepShaver, to be precise) but for new documents, I often use other word processors because the FrameMaker file format seems to be a dead end now on the Macintosh. For quite a few types of text, I nowadays just use a text editor for editing simple text files, MarkDown or LaTeX files.

Latest news

I've started a new job in March 2016; my previous position ended in Nov 2015. I spent some three months looking for a new position (in the fields of software development and statistics); I finally settled on a software development job in the area of public transport. More about my background can be found here.

Pictures

I started taking pictures when I was eight years old, with an instant camera I received as a Christmas gift (a Polaroid camera from the time before they started having little engines to spit out the pictures). Over the years, I've bought other cameras (and nowadays I browse through the second hand cameras on offer at the local shops, where it's possible to find excellent digital cameras for reasonable prices).

Here are a few pictures taken from the galleries inside; click on a small image version below to go directly to the gallery where that picture can be found; gallery pages will all open in a separate window.

Selection 2012 and 2013

I recently began playing with HDR images, where I reached one conclusion early on: don't overdo the effect. Included in this set are a few examples.

A few images from Berne and other places in Switzerland; I've played with some of these pictures in a image editing application (as noted in the descriptions). Some of these were taken with slide films and were then scanned.

Proper hot summer weather again.

Grand Prix 2010

Grand Prix Bern 2010

It's always interesting to see people living in the streets where the race takes place lending a hand. The spectators and helpers often provide the best subjects.

I'm testing my tele zoom, which has started to develop some problems recently with the autofocus.

Frauenlauf 2012

Schweizer Frauenlauf (Swiss Women's Race) 2012 in Berne.

One of the best signs of a relaxed atmosphere: lots of runners are smiling or even laughing during the race.
